Ingredients

  • 3 oz uncooked wild rice
  • 3 oz uncooked brown rice
  • 29-oz can diced tomatoes
  • 44 oz vegetable broth
  • 1/2 round tsp dry onion flakes
  • 1/4 round tsp dry parsley
  • 1/8 round tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 round tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 round tsp dry ground turmeric
  • 1/4 round tsp dry ground cumin
  • 1/8 round tsp dry ground ginger
  • 1/4 round tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 30-oz can black-eyed peas, drained

Directions

  • In a large pot, mix all ingredients except black-eyed peas.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes, or until rice is tender.
  • Add black-eyed peas and heat till warm through.
  • Serve warm.

Traditionally eaten New Year's Day to bring good luck for the coming year.
